Damon Puddy

Damon Puddy was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, where his interest in painting began at the age of 13.

More than three decades later, that early fascination has developed into a distinctive abstract practice, with his work exhibited and collected across Australia and New Zealand. He is now based in Melbourne, Australia.

A significant influence on Damon’s artistic development has been his experience collaborating with Indigenous artists in Australia. Observing their work and the relationship between art, culture and storytelling became an important source of inspiration, influencing his own appreciation for art as a form of expression beyond the purely visual.

“My subconscious is what creates each piece I work on. No two are alike. I lose myself in the now, so all that I see and feel influences and inspires the work I produce.”

Damon works intuitively, allowing each painting to evolve through colour, texture, movement and experimentation rather than beginning with a fixed image or outcome.

The result is work that sits somewhere between abstraction and imagined worlds - open-ended, atmospheric and deliberately open to interpretation.

Damon currently lives and works in Melbourne and exhibits throughout Australia and New Zealand.
